5 Benefits of a Clean Room on Your Body and Mind
Taking the time to tidy up our rooms is commonly seen as a waste. After all, we just need somewhere to sleep right? Who cares if there’s a couple of clothes on the floor or a pile of papers on the desk?
We begin and end our days in the same bedroom every night. Surprisingly, cleaning this room can have a whole host of benefits. A clean and organized room can be the foundation for you to introduce the same orderliness into other aspects of your life.
Here are 5 reasons you should get that room sorted:
Increase Productivity
Ensuring that you have an organized room and knowing where everything is will make you far more efficient in your actions, particularly when you wake up. Building habits like making your bed every morning encourage you to start your day off right and feel in control.
A tidy room is also a much more suitable environment for you to get work done when you need to. Simple things like putting notes up as reminders will work better when they’re not competing for attention with the rest of the clutter in the room.

Better Self-Esteem
Although it’s a seemingly trivial task, maintaining a clean and tidy room will provide you with a sense of accomplishment. No matter how small, every task that you complete will contribute towards building your confidence and self-esteem.
This is especially significant for individuals who regularly find themselves procrastinating or unable to work effectively. Clearing up your room can give you that much-needed boost in your self-esteem so you can go forward and accomplish other tasks too.

Improved Quality of Sleep
We are all aware of how important it is to get a good night’s sleep. The day after a poor night’s rest is rarely a productive or fun one. The state of your room can be a significant contributor to how well you sleep at night.
A tidier room which has fewer distractions will inevitably lead to a more peaceful, calmer state of mind. There’ll be no sense of guilt, inadequacy, or frustration when you’re in your room. By decluttering both your mind and room, you can properly wind down when you need to at night and help to prevent those compulsive ‘runaway’ thoughts that can so easily lead to a sleepless night by cleaning your room!
Happier State of Mind
By keeping your bedroom free of clutter, you remove all sorts of mental and physical stressors. Before I took the decision to sort my own room out, it was full of all sorts of things that I had no need for. Clothes that I hadn’t worn in years, random belongings I had no use for and a whole lot of mess.
Removing all of these from my bedroom was invaluable in clearing my mind and boosting my spirits. By doing the same, you can not only have a relaxing environment to go to after a stressful day but also take control of your actions and defeat all of those negative impulses that lead you to make the mess in the first place.
Set a Standard
Forming the habit of keeping your room clean and tidy will contribute to the discipline it takes to improve other aspects of your life. If you can ensure you make your bed every morning, you’ll be more likely to form other positive habits like exercising or getting your work done.
This is unfortunately often seen in the opposite direction. One dirty spoon in the sink leads to a whole load of unwashed dishes. One hour procrastinated in the afternoon easily turns into a whole wasted day. Missing one day of the gym causes a week of lazy evenings and no exercise.
Rather than succumbing to a negative chain reaction, begin the positive spiral upwards by tidying up your room. You’ll be surprised at what else you might get done afterwards!
